The Gobardanga Renaissance Institute (GRI) has a rich 50-year history since its inception in 1967, starting with science club activities that gained local popularity. The institute organized science exhibitions, discussions, trips to scientific places, and more, significantly contributing to science education and awareness. In 1973, the GRI was officially established, with the first significant public event being the participation in the National Children’s Science Exhibition inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The institute grew rapidly, gaining recognition for its science exhibitions and educational initiatives. By 1975, GRI had expanded its activities to include a music school, Surchanda Sangeet Vidyalaya, and a nursery, Shishu Bhuban Renaissance Nursery. we also initiated community programs in impoverished areas, promoting education and providing mid-day meals.
GRI was instrumental in promoting modern beekeeping across West Bengal starting in 1976. It gained membership approval from the NC-STC in New Delhi and hosted various workshops and conferences. The institute published a monthly magazine and several books, further establishing its reputation.
In 2001, GRI acquired a permanent residence named ‘Mani Dasgupta Bhavan’ in honor of its founder. The building includes a meeting room, a library, and a museum, and serves as the hub for various educational and cultural programs.
The institute continues to uphold its founding principles of promoting free thinking, scientific temper, and social progress, despite facing challenges. It remains committed to environmental protection, human rights, and the advancement of art, literature, and science.
Gobardanga Renaissance Institute was registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, of 1961.Legacy Registration No. S/19965.
